Less than a month has passed since his triumph at the FIP Gold in Shanghai, but Argentine player Facundo Lopez will return to China this week with the aim of competing for the title at the FIP Silver in Pingyuan. This time, he will not partner Julian Lacamoire, but will share the court with Lok Hei Jamie Yau. Lopez will also arrive at this CUPRA FIP Tour event with the confidence gained from his victory last weekend in Spain at the FIP Bronze La Nucia. Securing another title will not be easy, as Lopez and Yau will face competitive pairs, including the tournament’s No.1 seeds Roberto Belmont-Guillem Figuerola. These two players have come close to winning the title three times this season: at the FIP Silver and Bronze events in Melbourne and at the FIP Bronze in Houten, Netherlands. This is why their objective in China will be clear: to lift their first title on this circuit of the year. Also among the pairs to watch are Dutch duo Julian Prins and Youp De Kroon, winners this year of the first edition of the FIP Bronze in Prishtina, Kosovo, and the FIP Bronze in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The entry list also includes Alberto Garcia-Christian Medina Murphy.
Leading the women’s draw are Marcella Koek and Victoria Kurz. The former won the FIP Bronze in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this year, while the latter claimed victories at the FIP Bronze Cyprus II and Prishtina. Their main challengers for the title will be Kotomi Ozawa, winner of the FIP Bronze Hong Kong II this year, and Camila Ramme. The latter is enjoying a standout season, having secured five titles so far: four FIP Bronze titles and the prestigious FIP Silver in Palermo. Also competing in China will be Alba Perez-Venise Chan and the Japanese pairing of Kae Tokumoto-Yoshino Kushima. The main draw of this tournament will begin on Thursday 9 July.
